It has been our privilege to deliver groceries and the love of Jesus to
a senior housing project in our town. The depth and wealth of experience
these sometimes forgotten people have acquired in their life time. The
tests of life they have endured.
One woman was born in the 19th century and now lives in the 21st century!
Another woman did her laundry in the stream until one day she was trying
to scoop out a place along the edge of the stream so the current didnt
carry the clothes away and she dug into a spring which then supplied running
water to the house. You should have seen the smile on her face as she
told of the thanks she gave to God. Even with these wonderful testimonies
the elderly at times are discouraged. God reminds us of how He has not
forgotten us and Isaiah 57:14-15 instructs us to:
build up, build up, prepare the way, remove every obstacle out of
the way of my people. For thus says the high and exalted One who lives
for ever, whose name is holy, I dwell on a high and and holy place and
with the contrite and lowly of spirit in order to revive the spirit of
the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite.
We find it a humbling experience to offer a cup of cold water in Jesus
name to the Seniors as the end of their race draws near. We are also encouraged
by the grace the Holy Spirit has supplied, to love and encourage Gods
people as they take those last steps to the finish line.
