Morrisville, Vermont, USA, is a small town of about four thousand people located in the North central area of the state. Like many Vermont towns, it has a rich history and strong sense of community. And yet, there are those in our town who feel alienated and disenfranchised: the elderly who may have believed in the God of the Bible all their lives, yet spend their last years lonely and unfulfilled, never having experienced the joy and peace of a vibrant relationship with Jesus. The young people of our town, many of whom are being raised to believe that there is not a Creator who deeply loves them and has a wonderful purpose and destiny for them to fulfill, but that personal comfort is the highest goal in life. And all those in between, who work hard to make a living, raise families, and make a significant contribution to the community, but still fall prey to divorce, abuse, empty religion, material pursuits, or poverty, desperately seeking to fill the gnawing emptiness inside and find true peace and meaning in life.
It is into this setting that God has placed His people. As the body of Christ, we are called to be ambassadors of His kingdom wherever He has put us, agents of godly restoration and redemptive transformation. Not an easy task, perhaps, but we have a promise from the One who, because of His incredible love for us, gave His only Son to redeem and transform our lives:
you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth. Acts 1:8
The biblical pattern, as outlined by the Lord Jesus to His disciples immediately before He returned to heaven after His resurrection, is to first reach with the gospel those with whom we live and to whom we are closest. For those in our fellowship who live in Morrisville, this means we are to pray and seek Gods heart and will for how to impact the people who live in our townour Jerusalem, you might saywith the good news of the love of Jesus Christ, and then in obedience to what He tells us, to go and do something about it. We consider it a great privilege and blessing from the Lord to have been called by Him to build relationships with and serve our neighbors here. As you explore the articles contained in this section, you will read about some of the strategies the Lord has given us to practically demonstrate His love to the members of our town over the years.
