Jesus said to him,I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me. John 14:6
There are only three ways to follow Jesus, His Way, embracing His Truth, and empowered by His Life. That makes being a disciple of Jesus very simple. The problems that we personally experience come when we stray from these truths.
His Way. The way of love. He came and died for each person ever created that we might have intimacy with Him. We lose this intimacy, and the peace and security that comes with it, when we are not able to love as He loves. Everyone has people who they feel have hurt them, real or imagined, and the surest way to lose intimacy with Him is to strike back. Whether the blows are verbal or harbored in our hearts the end result will be the same---a decreasing intimacy with the One who is Love.
Many times when we are wounded we just try to grin and bear it. The long term result of this approach is an erosion of intimacy with Him and an inability to freely receive love. The way of love is to forgive and shower forth blessings upon those who have hurt us. Freedom to love and to be loved is the fruit of a lifestyle of forgiveness and blessing.
His Truth. No philosophies, opinions, or theories allowed here. His Word is the Truth, in fact, He Himself is the Word.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
We must cling to the Word, both the written Word and the spoken Word. To do this requires a pursuit of relationship with Jesus and studying the scriptures. Both are necessary, both are important, both are life giving, and both will set us free to be the true Christian that the scriptures portray.
His Life. Relationship with Jesus causes His Life to flow into us and thru us to others. It is in this manner that we fulfill the Great Commission to become disciples of Jesus, observing all that He commanded, and to disciple others in the same manner. When we are both growing in our relationship with Him and helping others grow in their relationship to Him we are satisfied. His purpose is being fulfilled in us and thru us. That is a good thing.
If you have not been living in this manner today is a great day to start. Will you?
